Most comparisons between AI coding tools are written from a demo. The differences that matter show up somewhere else: in how much of the diff you have to read, how often the tool changes files you did not ask it to touch, and how quickly it tells you it is unsure. Those are the axes we compare on.
Every comparison here reaches a verdict. We say which one we would keep and under what conditions that judgement stops holding — because a comparison that ends in it depends is not a comparison.

Two tools can produce equally correct code and cost you wildly different amounts of attention. A change that touches nine files when three would do is a worse outcome, even if it works.
Every one of these tools will be confidently wrong. The useful question is what it does next: does it reproduce before it diagnoses, does it tell you which parts it is unsure about, can you unwind the change cleanly.
Switching cost is not the subscription. It is the memory files, the skills, the slash commands and the hooks you have written against one tool's format. Prefer formats that port.
