Copilot spans autocomplete, chat, an agent mode that edits across files, and a coding agent that can be assigned GitHub issues and open pull requests on its own. Its distinguishing feature is reach: it is available in most IDEs, on github.com, in the CLI, and in code review, with organisation-level policy controls that large companies need.
